Farming Questions FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question about our products or how we operate? Browse the topics below. If you don't find your answer here, contact our team — we're happy to help.

Pickup & Local Delivery

Do you offer in-store or farm pickup?

Yes. You can select local pickup at checkout. Once your order is ready, you'll receive an email notification with pickup instructions. Please bring your order confirmation when you arrive.

What is your local delivery radius?

Our local delivery area and any applicable fees or minimums are set at checkout based on your postal code. If your address falls outside our current delivery zone, the local delivery option will not appear and we'll suggest shipping alternatives. Contact us if you're unsure whether you're within range — we're happy to check for you.

Can I schedule a specific pickup or delivery time?

Pickup is available during our regular business hours. For delivery timing requests, please get in touch before placing your order so we can confirm availability.

Shipping Quotes

Why is my shipping quote higher than expected?

Many of our products — including feeders, tanks, and bulk feed — are large, heavy, or require special handling. Shipping rates are calculated live at checkout based on your location, the weight and dimensions of your order, and carrier pricing. We use netParcel and ClickShip to find competitive rates across multiple carriers.

What if no shipping rate appears at checkout?

If no rate appears, it usually means the carrier cannot service your postal code for that product size, or the item is only available for local pickup. Contact us with your postal code and the items you're interested in and we'll find a solution.

Do you ship to all provinces?

We ship across Canada. Rates and transit times vary by destination and carrier. Remote or rural postal codes may have limited carrier options or higher rates. We'll always show you available options at checkout.

Livestock Medication

Do your livestock medications require a prescription?

Some livestock medications are prescription-only (Rx) under Canadian regulations, while others are available over the counter (OTC). Product listings indicate the regulatory status. For prescription products, we require a valid prescription from a licensed veterinarian before we can fulfill your order.

Are the medications you sell labelled for the species I'm treating?

All medications we carry display label indications for the approved species and conditions. Always follow the label directions. Extra-label drug use (using a product outside its labelled indications) must only be done under the direction of a licensed veterinarian. If you have questions about suitability for your animals, consult your vet before purchasing.

How should I store livestock medications?

Storage requirements are listed on each product label and on the product page. Most medications should be stored in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight. Follow label instructions precisely to maintain effectiveness and safety.

Feed Format Selection

What is the difference between pellets, crumbles, and mash?

Pellets are compressed and uniform — minimal waste, easy to handle, and suitable for most livestock and poultry. Crumbles are broken pellets, a good middle-ground format for younger birds or animals that have difficulty with full pellets. Mash is a finely ground, unprocessed mix — highly digestible but can lead to more waste if animals are selective feeders.

How do I choose the right feed for my animals?

Match feed to the animal's species, age, and production stage (e.g., starter, grower, layer, finisher). Product listings include recommended species and life stages. When in doubt, check with your livestock supplier or veterinarian, or ask us — we're familiar with the products we carry.

Can I mix feed types or brands?

Transitioning between feeds gradually over 7–10 days is generally recommended to avoid digestive upset. Mixing brands is possible but check that you're not duplicating additives (e.g., coccidiostats) beyond safe levels. When in doubt, stick to one feed program at a time or consult your vet.

Choosing Hay Feeders

What type of hay feeder should I use?

The right hay feeder depends on your livestock type and how much hay waste you want to reduce:

  • Round bale feeders (ring feeders): Best for cattle and horses. Look for a feeder with a hay saver skirt or cradle design to significantly cut waste.
  • Small square bale feeders: Better suited for smaller operations or confined spaces. Work well for sheep, goats, and calves.
  • Wall-mounted or corner feeders: Ideal for stalls and smaller enclosures where floor space is limited.
  • Slow-feed hay nets or bags: Useful for horses prone to overeating or for extending feeding time.

How many animals can one feeder support?

A general guideline is to ensure enough feeder access so that all animals — including lower-ranking herd members — can eat without being pushed out. As a starting point, allow approximately one feeder space per 1–2 animals, depending on the feeder size and your herd dynamics. Product pages list recommended capacity where available.

What materials should I look for in a hay feeder?

We carry feeders in galvanized steel and heavy-duty polyethylene. Galvanized steel is durable and handles rough use from cattle well. Poly feeders are rust-proof, lighter, and easy to clean — a good choice for sheep, goats, and smaller operations. Check individual product pages for weight ratings and construction details.
